Professional Bio
The original Fitbit launched in 2009, ushering in the era of movement tracking and overall wellbeing through digital signals. Keen to the health returns of consistent daily activity, UnitedHealthcare was quick to capitalize on the device’s tracking capability and to develop member incentivization programs based on daily physical activity.
While the concept was there, it was too early for the Fitbit to be proven sustainable as a device or platform. There was enough evidence in the future profitability of an incentives program however, that it was worth looking outside of the consumer model in favor of a full stack, custom platform and program, including the hardware and wearable device itself.
The Trio was born.
Over the next five years, I spent countless hours, in dozens of time zones, working on new technologies; knowing what wearable devices could enact on individual health outcomes, through new technology-enabled paradigms of self-awareness, promoting actionable accountability.
My professional experience matured as the technology advanced, providing me with a full spectrum of experience across the traditional product lifecycle: designing, sourcing, manufacturing, supporting, and the creation of an end-to-end wearable device platform. At the same time, I decided to advance my education by pursuing an MBA, which allowed me to better align product to a broader business context. I became a global citizen, traveling internationally, managing teams across continents, and building relationships with OEM partners.
Most importantly, my career has allotted me a rare level of customer intimacy. The best interests of our members has followed me on this journey, influencing the process and outcomes each step of the way, motivating my own professional development to match the important demands of the population we serve.
Eventually, my focus narrowed to a single comorbidity—type 2 diabetes. Joining Level2, my goal was to leverage the vast wealth of data from members wearing continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and typical wearable signals from Fitbit to create just-in-time interventions, lowering healthcare costs, and increasing patient outcomes. Staying on the cutting edge of data science, this effort would eventually transform from an algorithmic based operation to the creation of a full machine-learning and AI team to maximize the scope and output of the massive amounts of patient health data.
As the journey continues, my goal is to help businesses maximize their investment on various signals and information from across the ever-expanding technologies that are passively integrated into our everyday lives. From home to hospital, the car to the bathroom, from screen to mind, our world is becoming increasingly connected everyday—and the improvements we can introduce to our lives are endless.
